6 - 13 September 2008
7 day singing course at Bild-Werk, Frauenau,
in the hills of the Bavarian forest, near the Czech border in
Germany.
Bild-Werk is a unique and inspirational centre for artistic
activity in a small glassmaking town called Frauenau. It attracts
international artists to run courses in the practical arts-
glass engraving, glass blowing, carving wood straight from the
forest, painting, and much more. It is open to professionals
and beginners alike.
The singing course takes place in an old barn called Tom’s
Hall, where the singers sing alongside students practising a
range of visual arts. Nothing on the page can describe the liveliness
of the atmosphere at Bild-Werk, the conviviality, the fun, and
the feeling of mutual interest and activity between students.
This singing course will be run in English, though there will
be simultaneous translation into German.
“The charismatic Candy Verney inspires us all and takes
us on a fascinating musical odyssey. The magic starts within
a few minutes of the session starting. We limber up with a few
body and voice exercises and then, almost before you know it,
we are making the most beautiful sounds. We listen to her, sing
with her a few times and then keep to our part – quite
an amazing process. Candy selects songs that come from any part
of the globe: we sing mournful tunes from The Outer Hebrides,
sun drenched Cuban love songs, classics such as ‘Ain’t
misbehavin’. We have sung songs in Hawaiian, Russian,
Spanish, Gaelic, Latin, and African. The songs are contemporary
or experimental, and range from as early as the eleventh century
to the present day.” (Rebbeca Shields, former course
participant).
Cost: 290 €, Students: 260 €
Participants: All the courses welcome applications
from both professional artists and motivated non-professionals
and are open for participants aged from 18 years.
